Ergonomics! How far can a company go? We just had a meeting on ergonomics and now there is talk about making people sign a waver about there unhealthy work habits. Like slouching and sitting to close to the computer. Obviously to cover there when it comes down to a law suit but can they do this? I feel they have not met our needs for a better work place. Our desks are small and always over crowed with work. Worst, there too narrow so by just sitting in you place you’re already to close to the computer. Why doesnt the UK ever buy Russian fighters or weapons? Some of the best combat aircraft in the world come from the Su 27 variants. The Su 35 is, in my opinion, the equal of the Typhoon or the F22 (the F22 is not massively superior to any modern fighter in real world combat, low observables are mostly negated by Russian radars). The Su 34 would make a good addition to the Typhoon in the strike/recce role that the GR4 fills at the moment. The only problem with these aircraft is the cockpit ergonomics and the computer software. Is there any particular reason why these airframes are not even considered and then bringing them up to western standard avionics and possibly western weapon systems? I cant understand why they arent even in the running. I would rather have 100 Su33's then 300 JSF's. If western avionics and pilot integration systems met Russian airframe designs, it would make an unbeatable fighter. If you mean the TU144, it was built from dismissed concorde prototype blueprints that were stolen during the cold war. Air crashes are only fatal if there is an incompetant pilot, there is no reason UK companies could not build the airframes on licence from Russia, would help economic ties, promote British industy and give the RAF and RN the best aircraft in the world. The Typhoon is the best strike fighter in the world, but we need a dedicated strike/recce platform to replace the GR4. No modern jet uses 7.62 or 5.56 ammunition!!! Its all 27 or 30 mm cannons. Ammunition is standard across these 2 gauges. As for the US fighters beating Russian fighters, its all down to pilot integration with all the sensors and information displays. The west concentrated on this and excel at it, no arguements there. But US and UK airframes arent a patch on the Su 27 modern variants. Bring them together and its an unbeatable mix. Bring in helmet projected displays, 3 colour MFD cockpits, holographic HUD, JTIDS, and all sorts of other modern western equipment and change the ergnomics to suit western pilots and it would be brilliant.

Ergonomics Survey, please answer...? Ergonomics is how people today are recognized that computers need to be safer and more comfortable to the user. Injuries can result if you don't make sure that you're using proper technique when using a computer etc. The comfiness of an office chair is ergonomics. (something to talk to your boss about eh?) Please rate the ergonomics at your work or in work space from 1 to 10 and why you feel this way. Please name your work (not your position, or salary), and where in the world are you
Body friendly use of laptop computer...? I have had a laptop for a few months now and I love that I can use it in so many different places around the house: in my easy chair, in my bed, on the dining table, on the go. However, I notice all these aches and pains afterwards and they are getting worse. And I know it is because my posture and hand positioning, etc are not correct. I need some help with ergonomics here...but I don't want to sacrifice the flexibility that defines use of a laptop. It seems silly to have all that mobility and then restrict myself to a proper desk. I posted this in the medical section, because even though I am talking about my computer, it is a health concern. Of course, if you can help, I will listen to anyone, but I was hoping to hear from a physical therapist or similar type trained person. I'm sure that professional computer users who are prone to repetitive use injuries will be able to weigh in as well. Thanks for your help!
How to gather information and retain for better performance in school. Nowadays with internet and courses online we are facing with an overload of information. Results: chronic skeletal and muscle pain by sitting behind computer not to mention unnecessary eye stress, dealing with dirty keyboards and etc....ok maybe it's not that bad, but here's the alternative I like: Problem: how to learn a subject in the most efficient way? Objective: fully understand materials and retain technical information with the most reduced ergonomic stress and strand Alternative1: use computer and internet (pros: lots of information*, mostly free *- cons : lots of ergo issues***, irrelevant and noisy info**, not as mobile as having a book**, more costly even if own laptop**) Alternative 2: reading from text book and solving assignments (pros : less ergo issues***, mobility*, relevant data**) (cons: need a book for every subject**, cost sometimes not worth the material (if too technical and specific) (what's up with 125 dollar text books?)) Note: number of * indicates importance so health related and ergonomics gets *** (healthy brain is in healthy body) What do you think?

Headaches viewing computer screen.? Hi there. Please help! I have been having some serious headaches for the past year - all related to my computer monitor. I work in a cubicle. No natural light. Lights from the ceiling, but not too much. I had a computer CRT monitor, and was having headaches. So I put a 3M filter screen on it, but still headaches. I switched to a sony LCD screen, and still have problems. I put the 3m filter screen on that - still problems. I bought one of those natural lights that are supposed to reproduce sunshine (it seems just like a bright white light) - still problems. There doesn't appear to be a glare on my screen from the overhead lights. I sit about 2 feet from my screen. I had the company ergonomics person come check it all out, but nothing abnormal - i sit at the right height, good distance from screen etc. I don't have these problems when I work at home or use the laptop in different locations (i.e., coffee shops, home office, library, etc.) Any advice or help is much appreciated!
How do you stop computer-related neck pain? I've been doing computer work for years and have developed a sharp stabbing pain between my shoulder blades, around the T3 joint. I've been doing PT for a while but it's not doing much. Anybody out there do tons of computer work and have had the same problem/ overcome the same problem? My ergonomics are good. Great chair, monitor at eye level, special keyboard, even have two mouses to switch back and forth. I just don't know. Maybe got to lay off for a few months. But all my qualifications are in graphic design - on computers! I literally have no experience doing anything outside of that. Got into the biz straight out of a degree in digital media. Talk about running into a serious career block! Also, I actually got an MRI of my spine and there's no herniations, disc bulges, or anything. I also saw two chiropractors for about 3 months each with no results. Aaaah! I don't know what to do! My neck's killing me even as I write this!!

Distance From Face to Computer? I'm doing some kind of test on Ergonomics crap and its asking me something I can't find in both text book or internet. It's asking me how far a computer monitor should be (INCHES) from your face (If in the right posture). Just a normal DELL or those school monitors. Can someone help? Thanks. P.S. It says symptoms of Carpal Tunnel are numbness, weakness, tingling, and pain in the fingers (or less commonly in the palm). I've been feeling tingly numbness in my left pinky (I'm right handed so I don't know if it makes a difference). for over a month now. Am I getting Carpal Tunnel? may seem paranoid sorry, but I'd like to know because I'm on the computer almost every day typing and all the while my left wrist also starts to hurt. ANYONE KNOW??? Thanks!

Need some final judgement on my new gaming rig/computer build? OK. this is the gaming rig build i have come up with. i am planning on buying everything, even keyboard/mouse and monitor. i didnt include an aftermarket cpu cooler because the stock amd cooler was sufficient. this is the list: (i'm an AMD/ATI fan:P) (all items from newegg.com, best pc components prices) CPU: ($190) AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor MOTHERBOARD: ($77) ASRock A780GXH/128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard RAM: (2x$45) (2 sets) G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory MONITOR: ($190) Acer X233Hbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 40000:1 (ACM) OS: ($100) Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders CASE/FANS: ($50) COOLER MASTER ELITE 335 RC-335-KKN1-GP Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case HARD DRIVE: ($60) Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive CD-DRIVE: ($20) LITE-ON Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model iHDS118-04 - OEM KEYBOARD/MOUSE: ($22) Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000 B2L-00047 Black 105 Normal Keys 9 Function Keys USB Ergonomics Keyboard and Mouse VIDEO CARD: ($265) SAPPHIRE 100269OCSR Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - OC edition POWER SUPPLY: ($70) KINGWIN 730W ATX / BTX SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply $1134 total. i would like to keep the price udner $1200. what i wanna know: what do i need to take out? what needs to be changed? what needs to be added? note: i am building this computer COMPLETELY from scratch, so i need every single pc component, disregarding a sound card, because the integrated sound card in motherboards are sufficient, and a few other components. the only thing i will be using from my old computer are the great speakers. thank you in advance.
Ergonomics and Laptops? Hey, Well basically i have an assignment in school to study ergonomics and choose a laptop for a company. its being done in a group and im in charge of laptops. my requirements are: •Laptop computers: The general manager of the facility and his three senior managers will require mobility. That is, they want to be able to use their laptop computers in the office and at home. They will need workstations to accommodate these laptops in the office. i was just wondering if you guys would have any suggestions on reading meterial, brands, or just basically what i should be looking for. any help would be great. ~Thanks
I like researching the latest technology, phones, computers; etc. What's a good career for someone into that? I've always been told that I'd do good in a computer related field as opposed to what I do now and i'm considering how i could segway into something different. my question above sounds broad, but I'd to be one of those people that research and review the newest latest gadgets/computers or maybe one of those people that work with ergonomics (i've always noticed how poorly offices are lighted, furniture quality/arrangement of machines, and poor air quality for example), or improving office morale, productivity, or as part of a career/corporate coaching kind of job. What job and/or education could lead me down this kind of path. i'm really appreciate of anyone's experience/advice who actually works in any of the above. thanks for all your responses!

What are the details of Worker's Comp? I work in an office and have already mentioned to my boss that my desk, computer, chair, & phone situation cause me back pain. Today it is EXTREMELY painful & I wanted to go to the doctor. I asked Human Resources and they said that my desk ergonomics is wrong and they'll change it as soon as possible. Even if it gets better over time, my back is KILLING me NOW. What can I do about the pain??? Are they required by law to send me to the work doctor? I'd feel better with some x-rays and definitely want some pain meds! What sort of leverage do I have here? My employee handbook says very little on this topic. Thank you for your input! Please only answer if you are actually trying to help, don't answer just to be lame. I'm actually asking for some help here. Thanks.
Shoulder/neck muscle pain/stiffness???? ANY PROFESSIONALS OUT THERE?? Neck and shoulder pain and stiffness WORSE in the morning AND upon lying down at night. Have tried MANY MANY types of chiropractic pillows and other methods, including massage therapy. Only temporary relief. Can't believe it is stress related, as I'm relaxed when going to bed. Using ergonomics at computer. Exhausted all avenues. Got a new one??
Critical debate...help? I have to start 2 critical debates for a class and I'm not sure on how to do it. My choices for starting these debates are as follows: 1) IT Industry Careers 2) Computer Piracy 3) Ergonomics 4) Computer Crime 5) Robotics If you have any ideas, anything would be helpful. Thank you!!
